Improving patient safety and the quality of care requires coordinated, system\u2011wide action, from the way health services are organized to the daily clinical and managerial decisions made in hospitals. Continuous professional development and strong collaboration between institutions are essential to ensure that quality and patient safety standards are effectively translated into routine practice and lead to tangible improvements for patients.<\/p>\n
To support national efforts to strengthen quality of care and patient safety in Romania, the WHO Office for Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens, the WHO Country Office in Romania, and the National Authority for Quality Management in Health (ANMCS) have launched a series of capacity\u2011building workshops for hospital professionals.<\/p>\n
On 29 April 2026, representatives from hospitals in Romania\u2019s South\u2011East Region participated in the first workshop, which focused on practical approaches to turning data into action to improve patient care. The session provided participants with tools and examples to better use quality and safety data for decision\u2011making and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
Key topics included the role of inter\u2011institutional collaboration in the effective implementation of quality of care and patient safety standards, the importance of continuous training for all categories of health professionals, and the use of data and evidence to drive improvements, drawing on good practices from across the WHO European Region.<\/p>\n
This initiative is part of the technical assistance provided by WHO\/Europe to the Ministry of Health to support implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) in the health sector, contributing to more resilient, patient\u2011centred, and high\u2011quality health services in Romania.<\/p>\n
The next meetings will take place on 19 May 2026, in Bistri\u021ba and on 21 May 2026, in Ia\u0219i.<\/p>\n
